The Catholic Institute is the cultural centre of the Archidiocese of Malta. It was inaugurated by Archbishop Michael Gonzi in 1960. The primary aim of the Institute is to foster christian culture and education in Malta. Its activities include theatrical productions, concerts, courses, seminars, lectures, cultural and educational debates, counselling, exhibitions, prayer groups and retreats. At the Institute there are also housed the following Diocesan Commisions : National Cathecetical Commision Cana Movement Catholic Action Movement Lehen is-Sewwa ( a weekly publication with catholic inspiration) The Maltese Missionary Movement
