The European Centre for Workers Questions (EZA) was founded on January 29th, 1985 by people committed to Europe within Christian social movements from various countries in Europe. Due to the increasing integration in Europe, it was their aim to contribute to this process through schooling and education. They were lead by Christian social ideas. In the course of time, EZA has developed into a platform for reflection, and co-operation for a large number of Christian social organizations, social associations, self-help groups, trade unions and other political groups. It has been possible to carry out a multitude of courses, symposiums and conferences, thanks to the financial help from the European Commission and the co-operation from EZA’s centres. Conferences with representatives from trade unions from Eastern and Central Europe, which have been held since the 80s have given our work an additional dimension. Appart from the socio-economical questions which we deal with, we are being more and more confronted with requests and needs from special target groups, such as women, youth hadicapped people and senior citizens. This will demand additional dedication from us all, which is all the more necessary as we receive requests from several developing countries to contribute to the solution of social problems through joint projects. We gladly accept this responsibility and are very aware that our work is concerned with creating more humanity for people in all spheres of life, especially in professional life. Now and in the future a Europe for citizens is only possible if these take part in the political proceedings at all levels and can also bear the joint responsibility for this. EZA represents 45 national centres vis-à-vis European committees and especially vis-à-vis the Commission. EZA is accepted by the Commission as a network. Through subsidies, EZA makes every effort to help the member centres in their activities both nationally and internationally. To fulfill the targets, EZA carries out educational meetings, exchange programmes and research projects. The results from educational work and research projects are then published by EZA.
