Seeds has been active since 1982 and has members in the following arts disciplines: Music contemporary and classical, dance -contemporary, fine art-painting, sculpture and photography, theatre, mime, storytelling and writing. Seeds was formed with the intention of developing the use of arts skills in churches and led workshops in all arts disciplines to this end. In the mid-eighties this work expanded to help churches and clergy to consider how the act of worship can be made more creative and Seeds became involved in clergy training courses. A book called Creativity In Worship was published by Seeds in 1990. Seed also led creativity in worship sessions in prinsons in partnership with prison chaplains. In the 1990s Seed started its involvement in schools, using the arts to investigate human rights and environmental issues. It developed theatre-in-education productions, led workshops and teacher training sessions and provided educational materials. At the same time it led training weekends in the use of forum theatre, developed forum theatre pieces on biblical stories and used this technique to investigate issues such as homelessness. It worked in partnership with The Bible Society to develop training and events for churches on the use of the Bible is church and evangelistic events. In 2000 Seeds worked in partnership with the JC2000 arts festival for schools; leading training for teachers, monitoring the schools work and providing artists for events. It also staged a musical involving 600 children in London. Since then, Seeds has used the arts in primary schools and nurseries in a deprived part of London to build up the self-esteem of the children and develop their relationships with each other. It continues to work in partnership with churches and train church leaders and is developing a new project with Scripture Union as well its own multi-arts materials for schools and churches on the theme of sanctuary. Seeds aims are: The encourage creativity within Christian and secular communities. To provide creative resources To enable churches to develop their own creative resources To provide training in creative worship for clergy To encourage personal spiritual development Our members come from all varieties of churches, Seeds is a truly ecumenical organisation. We publish a newsletter six times a year which includes workshop ideas for use with Christian faith groups
