http://www.manifestarts.comThe Vancouver Arts Network brings together and connects Christian Artists in the Vancouver area.
Since its inception in July of 2001, the Vancouver Arts Network (VAN) has become a vital point of reference for Christian artists in the Lower Mainland region as well as a catalyst for the production and presentation of new works by these artists.
Its membership list has grown to over 400 and includes musicians, dancers, writers, actors, visual artists, filmmakers and educators. By encouraging a network of artists around the Vancouver area VAN has contributed significantly to the growing sense of artistic community that is being recognized in this region.
Besides special arts events, workshops and lecture/discussion groups that take place throughout the year, VAN regularly produces three key networking events for the arts:
a yearly city-wide arts festival (ManiFest), quarterly arts showcases (Imago Evenings) and two monthly arts liturgies.
MANIFEST ARTS FESTIVAL
The ManiFest Arts Festivals are the major events of the year for VAN and the months of preparation and planning that go into them have contributed greatly to the sense of community we enjoy. The three-day festival begins with a Friday night Gala Opening of its art exhibit, featuring up to 100 works of visual art. On Saturday, the art exhibit continues while performances and workshops are held throughout the day at other venues. Saturday evening is our Performing Arts Showcase where we present a varied roster of performers. The festival ends with a Sunday evening, ‘Celebration of the Arts in Worship’ service. Information and photos about these festivals can be seen on our website (www.manifestarts.com)
IMAGO EVENINGS
Our Imago Evenings, fashioned after those in Toronto, are an opportunity to showcase 3-4 artists of various disciplines and to hear from them about their particular vision for the arts. These are held quarterly and our recent ones have been presented in a large café in downtown Vancouver.
ARTS IN LITURGY
We also present two monthly arts-expressed worship services where various art forms are featured in a post-modern, topical montage, followed by Communion. The arts-expressed liturgies, on the first Sat. of each month, have featured jazz groups, concert pianists, poets, visual artists and dancers.
Our monthly Contemplative services, held on the third Saturday of each month, feature more of our classical musicians in Taizé-styled worship and are a rich opportunity to explore the transcendent in art.
